To begin fundraising on Instagram, set up an Instagram Business account

and link it to your Facebook profile. Follow these simple steps to get


Switch to an Instagram business account.

To get the most out of Instagram, you need to convert your Instagram profile to a Business account for your nonprofit. Once you have a Business account, you’ll gain access to business features and Instagram Insights. These tools can help you better understand who is engaging with your nonprofit on Instagram.

Link Instagram and Facebook accounts.

Linking your Instagram and Facebook accounts lets you easily view and manage your messages, fundraising and content more efficiently.

  1. Open Instagram.
  2. Tap your profile image in the bottom right corner.
  3. Tap on the menu.
  4. Tap on Settings at the bottom.
  5. Under Account, tap on Linked Accounts.
  6. Tap on Facebook.
  7. Tap on Share To and choose your nonprofit’s Page.

Start fundraising

on Instagram.

There are several ways to fundraise on Instagram. You can create a

fundraiser and add it to a post, Stories, and Live. You can add a Support

button to your profile or create a Group Fundraiser, and encourage

supporters to raise money on your behalf.

Add a Support button to your Instagram account.

This new button experience on nonprofit profiles allows people to see their nonprofit support opportunities in one easy-to-find place, enabling nonprofits to direct supporters to a singular call-to-action button. Once the Support button is clicked, people will see the option to create a fundraiser on your behalf, or make a donation.

How to add a Support button to your Instagram account:

  1. Go to your organization’s profile on the Instagram app and tap the menu icon in the top right corner.
  2. Tap ‘Settings’.
  3. Tap ‘Business’.
  4. Tap ‘Donations’.
  5. Next to ‘Add Support button to profile’, swipe the button to turn it on.
  6. The Support button will appear on your Business Account.

Instagram Nonprofit Fundraiser

Nonprofit Fundraiser is an ongoing way for nonprofits and their supporters to raise money for a cause.

Nonprofit Fundraisers can be attached to videos, carousels and image posts in Feed. The Nonprofit Fundraiser will be visible in the post and will be active for 30 days, but can be extended at any time. A link to an active fundraiser will also be added to the profile bio of the fundraiser creator.

How to create an Instagram Nonprofit Fundraiser:

  1. On your Profile or Feed, tap ‘(+)’ in the top right of your screen.
  2. Select ‘Post’, choose an image and tap ‘Next’.
  3. Under your image, tap ‘Add Fundraiser’.
  4. Enter the charity you want to raise money for and select it from the menu.
  5. Add details in the Fundraiser Details page, tap ‘Add’, then tap ‘Share’.
  6. The fundraiser will be visible in the post and you can find a link to the fundraiser in your profile bio.

Add a Donation sticker to Instagram Stories.

Stories allow supporters to create 24-hour fundraisers on Instagram or for a longer period if added to Highlights. Your followers can add a Donation sticker in Stories to support your nonprofit.

How to create a Story with a Donation sticker:

  1. On Instagram, open the camera and take or upload a photo that best highlights your cause.
  2. Tap the sticker icon.
  3. Select the Donation sticker from the tray.
  4. Select a nonprofit organization.
  5. Customize your fundraiser using Stories creative tools.
  6. Tap ‘Send to’.
  7. Tap ‘Share’ next to ‘Your Story’.
  8. You can add multiple images or videos to build your fundraising story.

Fundraiser in Instagram Reels

Reels let you create and promote short, entertaining videos that are up to 60 seconds in length. Reels include multi-clip videos with audio, text overlays, effects and more. By starting or sharing a fundraiser in Reels, nonprofits and supporters can rally their community as well as reach beyond it to tap into new audiences.

  1. Make sure you’re updated to the latest version.
  2. Open the app. Tap ‘+’ on the top right corner of your screen, then tap ‘Reel’ in the dropdown menu.
  3. Film your Reel or upload a video(s) from your gallery, and tap ‘Preview.’
  4. Add Effects if desired, then tap ‘Next.’
  5. On the final screen, tap ‘Add Fundraiser’ (below 'Add Location').
  6. Select a nonprofit and fill in the fundraiser details (title, goal amount, etc). Tap ‘Collaborators’ and invite supporters if you want to create a Group fundraiser.
  7. Tap ‘Share.’

When you share your Reel, the fundraiser will be created and attached to it. The fundraiser will also be automatically added to your profile bio and can be shared across any future Reels, posts, Lives, or Stories on Instagram.

Share a fundraiser

If you have already created a nonprofit fundraiser or a Group fundraiser, you can attach it to your Reels by following these steps.

  1. Make sure you’re updated to the latest version.
  2. Open the app. Tap ‘+’ on the top right corner of your screen, then tap ‘Reel’ in the dropdown menu.
  3. Film your Reel or upload a video(s) from your gallery, and tap ‘Preview.’
  4. Add Effects if desired, then tap ‘Next.’
  5. On the final screen, your existing fundraiser will appear in the fundraiser row below ‘Add Location.’ Toggle on to attach it to your Reel.
  6. Tap ‘Share’.

  1. Uniquely you: Create a consistent format & theme that people can recognize as yours.
  2. Relatable: Make people feel emotions and see themselves in your content by focusing on topics that are relatable.
  3. Easy to recreate: Think about virality. The more accessible your Reels are, the more likely they are to turn into trends.
  4. Keep it simple: Reels don’t need to be high production. Less is more.

Instagram Live

Instagram allows nonprofits to strengthen their connections with their supporters in real-time with Instagram Live.

By adding a fundraiser in live sessions, nonprofits can allow viewers to show their monetary support during broadcasts instantly. Nonprofits should also encourage their supporters to add a Donate button to their live sessions. During a live stream, supporters can add a Donate button to their Live video to capture donations for your cause.

How to fundraise with Instagram Live:

  1. On your Profile or Feed, tap ‘(+)’ in the top right of your screen and select ‘Live’, or swipe right in Feed and select ‘Live’.
  2. Tap ‘Fundraiser’ on the left of your screen.
  3. Select the nonprofit you want to start a fundraiser for by scrolling down or typing their name into the search bar at the top.
  4. Start your live video.

Group Fundraiser

Group Fundraiser allows nonprofits and other co-organizers (public figures, influencers, etc) to manage, host or collaborate on a joint fundraiser.

With Instagram Group Fundraiser, you can:

  • Raise money together: The more people join the fundraiser, the more likely you will meet your fundraising goal.
  • Increase the fundraiser’s visibility: The fundraiser is added to all co-organizer profiles, making it accessible to people beyond your reach.

How to invite others to join an Instagram Group Fundraiser:

  1. Once you’ve created your fundraiser, tap ‘Share’.
  2. Tap ‘Invite Group Members’.
  3. Invite the account(s) you would like to join the fundraiser.
  4. Once the invitees accept, their usernames show in the fundraiser. The fundraiser is also added to their profile.
